1. LE Castella
Barely a year ago, there was a sudden hype over traditional sponge cakes (古早味蛋糕) in both Singapore & Johor Bahru (JB), Malaysia, with several bakeries setting up new outlets in both locations. Each claimed to be the most traditional & original, like its origins from Taiwan, & long queues were seen outside these outlets then. The fad for traditional sponge cake seems to have died down because you hardly see any long queues at these outlets nowadays. Nonetheless, if you are craving for some springy eggy cake freshly made without using any preservatives or chemical substances, you can get some conveniently across the causeway.
The Amazing Taiwanese popular LE Castella cakes are now available in KSL City and it is the very first franchise in Johor Bahru. This fluffy treat is not only nice to eat but also nice to see. LE Castella’s cake is now dominating the road of Malaysia with their smooth and fluffy cakes or bread which is rich in creamy egg taste.

8. Tako Senbei Asia
Living in a country surrounded by Sea, the Japanese are some of the experts when it comes to Seafood. Their love for Seafood can be seen on their food culture… so much love for Seafood until they combined Seafood with Senbei, a classic all-time Japanese favorite snack made of Rice (also known as Rice Crackers). The introduction of such Seafood Crackers by Tako Senbei Asia was a hit in Japan and the blessed food gourmets in Johor can now enjoy a piece of these freshly made, paper-thin Seafood Crackers.
The concept is simple- fresh Seafood (like Prawn, Squid, Scallop, Fish) will be placed between 2 pieces of hot metal plates, with Rice Flour Batter added, it will then be compressed (and cooked) for a couple of minutes. The end product is a 1 mm paper thin Seafood Cracker with the earlier Seafood being “fossilized” and can be clearly seen on the Cracker. At present, there are 6 types of products available with 4 types of Seafood to choose from; as these are freshly made, do expect a brief wait.
