4. Cheotnun Korean Dessert Café (Chocolate Bingshu)

Cheot Nun Korean Dessert Café was opened in 2016 and it is located at Kim Teng Park. The Korean Dessert Café is located next to Sprout (fine dining restaurant) and a short distance from City Square JB & Komtar Mall. Basically the café is owned by a couple – local husband and a korean wife. They serve a variety of flavours of bingsu and price of Bingsu here is very reasonable too. The chocolate bingsu at Cheotnun Korean Dessert Café is very delicious and special because it’s fine and smooth.

Besides that, it is very tasty as it served with cookies too. If you want to try something different, you can try green tea bingsu which also one of the famous desserts here.

The green tea (matcha) flavoured shaved ice is fine and smooth in texture. The snowflake like texture easily disintegrates in your mouth. And the combination of red bean paste and a scoop of green tea ice-cream are just perfect.

It is recommended to try out their snacks. Barn 81 which located along Jalan Cengai in Taman Melodies in Johor Bahru (just off the Tebrau Highway on the same side as Kue Teow Meng and Tapai Tang restaurant) is one of the must go cafes in Johor Bahru. Barn 81 Cafe is in a re-purposed single storey bungalow offers a variety kinds of food and desserts.

6. Lemon Tree (Lava Cake With Ice-Cream)

Lemon Tree Restaurant is a simple little eating place in Taman Melodies, a quiet, leafy part of Johor Bahru. The boss, Jeffery Bong, had worked in Grand Hyatt hotel in Singapore and Thistle hotel in Johor Bahru, before opening his own restaurant, Lemon Tree. He said he picked this shoplot 11 years ago because he loved the old large trees outside the shop. The restaurant however, was named after one of his favourite songs. It’s the classic Western selections which friends and courting couples have enjoyed since the 1970s – chops, steaks, fish and chips, pastas, pizzas and sandwiches – all these at reasonable prices.

If you craving for some dessert, you can go for their Lemon Tree’s chocolate lava cake with ice cream. The lava is made of 70% chocolate giving it an addictive bittersweet flavour wrapped in a warm soft, spongy cake. The warm bittersweet chocolate lava complemented the icy sweet ice cream, making it one of customers’ favourite desserts.

Besides that, Lemon Tree makes their own pizza crust from scratch with just flour, water and yeast. Lemon Tree’s crust is the thick, bouncy kind with a slight crisp on the outside and spongy, chewy on the inside. By Grace is a dessert bar run by Grace and her boyfriend Gio. Grace is in charge of brainstorming all the ideas and creating the taste of the desserts while Gio works on the techniques, especially the Sous Vide method that he specializes in as he was previously a chef in Singapore.
This is a must-visit place especially to those dessert lover. The dessert menu is displayed on the wall with chalks writing.

There are two categories-explosion and molecular. Explosions are basically a molten cake with ice cream, while Molecular desserts utilize the principles of sciences to develop desserts that are presented in new and interesting ways.

J.C Café is about a 20-minute drive from City Square Mall. This café is located along Jalan Serampang is a charming cafe tucked on the upper floor of a bridal studio.
