- Private MPV Limousine Car from Singapore to Malacca
- Train From Singapore to Melaka
Option 1: Driving from Singapore to Malacca
If you own a car, the most convenient way is to drive to Malacca yourself. You can decide your own schedule, and you won’t need to disembark from the vehicle at the customs and immigration counter. You also won’t have to worry about carrying your luggage or hand-carry up and down the vehicle until you reach your hotel.
To drive to Malacca from Singapore, you should exit Singapore via the Woodlands checkpoint, and take the North-South Expressway (NSE) to Malacca. The nearly 250km journey may take 2.5-3 hours. However, this excludes the time spent for Singapore and Malaysia immigration custom clearance and possible traffic jams.
A word of advice: Avoid travelling to Johor Bahru during peak hours. On a daily basis, heavy traffic is expected in morning peak hours from 7:00am to 9:00am towards Singapore and in the evening after 5:00pm towards Johor Bahru city. For up-to-date traffic information, you may visit the onemotoring website before heading to Malaysia.
Things to note before you drive from Singapore to Malacca:
- Change some Malaysia currency (RM) before you travel.
- If you are driving a Singapore-registered motor vehicle, do bring along a printout of the vehicle’s road tax and insurance certificate.
- If you are departing from Singapore in a Singapore-registered motor vehicle, the vehicle’s motor fuel supply tank must be at least three-quarter tank full. Otherwise, you may be fined up to S$500. If found with a tank less than three-quarter tank full, the driver must turn back to Singapore to top-up the vehicle’s fuel supply tank to at least three-quarter full before the vehicle is allowed to leave Singapore.
- Make sure you have value in your CEPAS card, AutoPass, NETS, or EZ-link, as you will need to pay a road fee when you exit at the Singapore checkpoint.
- If you have one, bring along a cash-loaded Touch’n’Go cashcard which will allow you to pay the vehicle entry permit (VEP), parking fees, and highway tolls in Malaysia. If you do not have a Touch’n’Go card, you should proceed to lane 9 or 10 of the Malaysian customs to pay the RM20 VEP fee in cash.
- Don’t speed! Traffic police sometimes hide and lie in wait to catch reckless drivers. The speed limit on the North-South Expressway is 110km/h. Speed Trap Cameras are located at 3 points along the route to Malacca, and 3 points along the route back to Singapore:
- SG to Malacca: (E2 1km), (E2 151KM), (E2 180Km)
- Malacca to SG: (E2 180Km),(E2 147KM), (E2 1km)
- Use a navigation system like Google Maps or Wazes to help you find your way around. The streets in Melaka can be quite confusing due to a number of one-way roads and congested road conditions.
