Jonker 88
We are starting off this list of the jonker street food with the Jonker 88, located along Jalan Heng Jebat. It is a rather antique looking, true to origin dessert shop designed to reflect the culture and history deeply imbedded in its walls and Jonker Street itself. The interior looks beautiful and nostalgic, with the right touches of décor to set the mood just right.
Of all the Jonker Street food, this is the one you go to after them all. The quintessential Jonker dessert, the Cendol, is served here. The gula Melaka is thick and strong, which is balanced out perfectly with the coconut milk. A perfect treat to beat the heat.

San Shu Gong
Next in the list of jonker street food, we have the San Shu Gong, located along Lorong Hang Jebat. The interior is huge to say the least, and piled end to end with tonnes of food products and traditional drinks of all kinds. The top level is a dessert place with lots of seating arrangements and decorated with casks of Chinese alcohol.
The San Shu Gong isn’t your conventional food stop, rather it sells traditional snacks and drinks by the bucket load, and whatever you had in your childhood, you could probably find here.
They also have a dessert floor selling Cendol and Cendol Durian, which is also delicious and made fresh. Try the jonker street food today!

Kedai Kopi Chung Wah
This beloved restaurant is located along Jalan Hang Jebat, in the middle of Jonker Street. The restaurant is dressed as any other traditional eatery, with circular marble top tables, large engraved signs bearing the restaurant’s name, as well as plenty of framed Chinese calligraphy.
The restaurant is well known for its Chicken Rice Balls. The age old tradition of the shop is to serve the best chicken rice balls to all their patrons who come from far and wide, and these rice balls are made on the daily. The rice is fragrant and slightly sticky, and the chicken is well cooked and tender yet juicy. A must-try in your Jonker Street food hunt!

Geographér Café
The Geographér Café is a rather ‘hidden in plain sight’ café and eatery located along Jalan Hang Jebat. Along your walk through Jonker, you will most likely stumble upon this quaint place, well decorated with wooden blinds and dark wood furniture, giving off the appropriate Peranakan and colonial vibes.
For all the food and drink (all the way to beers and wine) that is offered here, we cannot recommend their dessert options enough, particularly the Banana Cake.
The cake is deliciously fluffy and does not have the typical artificial banana flavouring. Pair it with a cup of their Coffee, and you’ll have a wonderful evening of good vibes and great music.

Famosa Chicken Rice Ball
Another contender for the chicken rice ball crown is the Famosa Chicken Rice Ball restaurant, located along Jalan Hang Kasturi which is not too far from from Chung Wah.
In terms of looks, this place has a more conventional chicken rice stall design, with chickens lined up behind the glass panel of the butchering station, where the meat will be prepared while customers can watch as the chef expertly chops and slices the chicken to bite sized pieces.
The main highlight here is, of course, the Chicken Rice Balls! The rice has hints of ginger and slightly smells of chicken broth, and the chicken itself is smooth and tender, with minimal oil but maintains a juicy bite throughout.

Now for the more upscale, The Baboon House is a Western restaurant located along Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, in the Kapung Bukit China area. The interior is designed to be a faithful call back to the olden days of colonialism, with Peranakan touches throughout to really bring out the heritage and cultural background of the place.
Expect nothing less than a great burger when you come here, as The Baboon House prides itself over the wonderful, juicy burgers that come out of its kitchen. We recommend trying the Signature Pork Belly Burger, which is perfectly smoky and juicy. One bite and you’re bound to fall in love.

Eleven Bistro & Restaurant
Up next, we have the Eleven Bistro & Restaurant located along Jalan Hang Lekir. The Eleven takes a classier approach, opting for a refined design with minimal décor, hints of Chinese art and style thrown in for good measure, and lots of warm lighting to accentuate the aesthetic.
While you’re here, we recommend getting their Hai San Portuguese Style Baked Fish and Portuguese Chicken Curry.
The baked fish is smells of herbs and banana leaf, and is flaky yet juicy, as well as being lightly spicy. The curry is lightly spicy and thick, and the chunks of chicken are plenty and just so delicious.

Calanthe Art Café
One of the more well-known cafés in Jonker, the Calanthe Art Café is located along Jalan Hang Kasturi. The café is well designed and decorated, with hints of Asian influences mixed into the overall Peranakan aesthetic, making it look authentically cultural and unique in its own sense.
It claims to be the only café that serves coffee from 13 different states of Malaysia, giving coffee lovers the wonderful option to really explore the country by the brew.
We recommend getting their Coffee (of course), as well as their deliciously sweet and fluffy French Toast, a perfect pick-me-up platter.

Nancy’s Kitchen
Nancy’s Kitchen is situated along Jalan KL 3/1b in the Taman Kota Laksamana area. The rather formal and grand exterior paves the way to a classily designed interior, complete with banquet style tables and cushioned seats, Chinese artwork on the walls, and lots of bright lighting.
While you are here, we recommend ordering their Nyonya Laksa as well as their Sambal Petai Udang to pair with rice. The laksa is rich and flavoursome, with the right amount of spice, and the noodles are springy and soft.

The Daily Fix Café
How about a place for dessert and to lounge around? The Daily Fix Café is located along Jalan Hang Jebat, inside of a Nyonya souvenir shop cum bakery. As if the smell of freshly baked Nyonya cookies weren’t enough to draw you in, the aesthetics of The Daily Fix will definitely keep you staying. The interior incorporates the culture and art style of the space, and just looks like a trip back in time.
We highly, highly recommend that you get their waffles, or more specifically, the Salted Egg Waffles that come with a nice dollop of ice cream and a saucer of sauce on the side. The perfectly balanced notes of sweet, salty, and savoury fully covers your palate and leaves you wanting more, and having a nice cup of hot Coffee really helps bring it all to a close.

Low Yong Moh Restaurant
The Low Yong Moh Restaurant is located along Jalan Tukang Emas and is a very classic and authentic-looking dim sum shop in the heart of Jonker Street. The aesthetics of the place have presumably changed very little over the years, thus preserving that old-timey look.
They serve a wide variety of dim sum here, all the way from Shrimp Wantons to Yam Cakes. We recommend going for their buns, or more specifically their Steamed Pork Bun and their Custard Buns. The pork is plentiful and rich in flavour, and the custard is copious and adequately sweet.
The buns are made fresh and taste superior to anything store bought, so be sure to try them out before they run out!

Poh Piah Lwee Melaka
Last but not least, we have on our list the Poh Piah Lwee, which is located along Jalan Kubu. This quaint little shop does not emphasize much on its looks, opting for a more relaxed, traditional style and design that it has kept over the years.
The reason looks don’t really matter is because they pride themselves over the quality of their food instead. We recommend trying out their Popiah and Rice Dumplings. The popiah is made fresh on site and has a special ingredient in it: pork lard.
That elevates everything to a whole other level. The rice dumplings are made in Peranakan fashion, and contain a blue streak on the top as is custom, and is totally filled with delicious ingredients.
