PULAU AUR – YOUNGEST BROTHER OF 5 ISLAND SIBLINGS

It is due to its smaller island size compared to other four islands mentioned. Similar to other islands, Pulau Aur consists of various species of marine life underwater. Sometimes, you can even see some yachts anchoring near the island, mesmerizing its natural beauty. Besides, Pulau Aur also acts as a stopping point for the fishermen.

WHAT TO DO IN PULAU AUR

1. ECO DIVING & SNORKELING



Due to the efforts of  Aur Island Group in conserving the marine eco-system, beautiful and precious corals, numerous unique tropical marine life and clear turquoise sea water are protected. Hence, a recreational scuba diving activities have been haltered here.

One snorkeling spot that is recommended would be Teluk Meriam, the water here is really clean and you even can see the corals beneath with your bare eyes. Besides, do try out rock diving at Teluk Pahanan also, the view there is really amazing with marine blue seas all around.

However, this activity required pre-booking for arrangement purpose as there is no diving center available on this island.

2.JUNGLE TREKKING


A jungle trekking trip at Teluk Berhala during the morning is a should try activity upon reaching Pulau Aur. This jungle trekking is not easy as it seems, challengers may experience a real jungle trekking through heavy bushes and thorny branches along the trails. Sometimes, walking up a few wooden bridges along the trek is also required during the jungle trekking. Surrounded by the numerous green nature while viewing mesmerizing island view on the hilltop sure to be a great choice to relax both the tired body and mind, right?

3. VISITING TELUK BERHALA



Experience Pulau Aur’s local village life in Teluk Berhala and indulge yourself in their relaxing lifestyle. In order to reach Teluk Berhala, a boat ride in the evening is needed and there is a boatman available there to guide you there. Besides, Teluk Berhala do occupied with local primary schools, police station, clinics, kampung houses (traditional Malay house) and grocery shops which ease every villagers’ life. You can even see the rock peak of Gunung Batu Cina, which also the landmark of Pulau Aur from Teluk Berhala Jetty.

Occasionally, some friendly matches of Gasing Pangkah, a traditional Malay top-spinning game would be organised between the marine park staff and villagers at Kampung Teluk Sakinah, which is a bay up on Pulau Aur’s north facing Pulau Dayang. The director from Department of Marine Parks Malaysia, described that this garsing match is a great way to get to know the islanders and their traditions a little bit better, while smoothing out relations for future cooperation too.

6.SHORT TRIP TO PULAU DAYANG



Another most anticipated activity that could be done in Pulau Aur would be a short trip to Pulau Dayang, a small rocky island located at the opposite of Pulau Aur. However, a boat trip is required in order to get there. There, you can experience 40 minutes of group or individual hiking. Besides, there would be an experienced tour guide who will assist you during the hike to ensure your safety and not getting lost in the tracks. It is because the paths available there are quite confusing and challenging, The most challenging of this part would be its final segment, where you need to climb up the cliff by using a rope to cling on.

April to June

Best months to visit Pulau Aur. In between these months, scuba-diving and snorkeling are favorable as the sea is calm and safe.

November to March

Avoid visiting Pulau Aur during this monsoon season as strong winds are blown from South China Sea. The villagers can only repair and maintain their fishing equipment and fishing nets within this period.
