Pulau Tioman (or Tioman Island) is one of the largest islands in Malaysia. In 1970, this island was proud to be voted as one of the most beautiful islands around the world by Time Magazine. Arguably, it is one of Malaysia’s most popular tourist destinations located off the Southern East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. 1. SCUBA DIVING & SNOKERLING



Enjoy and relax in this tropical wonderland once you step onto the Tioman Island. Explore the ocean is a must to do when you reach an island, so join scuba diving courses. Go into the sea and see how beautiful the fishes are when they are swimming right beside you.

You can also get a diving license after joining the training courses. It costs around RM1000-RM1500 for the license. A bit pricey but definitely meaningful and challenging in your life. WHY NOT GIVE A TRY?



There would be several options for the snorkeling trip to be chosen from. However, the most famous one would be the one to Malang Rock and Tulai Island as visitors can see more sea life and beautiful corals. This combinations are so colorful and vibrant. Make sure that you explore in between the rocks too, where you would be able to get the most beautiful view.

2. JUNGLE TREKKING COURSE TO PAYA BEACH



Recommended by every villagers there, a short jungle trekking course to Paya Beach is a must try experience for everyone. This trek takes about one hour for slow walking pace and is relatively easy. A pair of normal sandals or slippers will do the job too. Visitors would pass by all different stretch of beaches along Kampung Genting, sight-seeing various natural unpolluted environment that calm both their souls and mind.

One tip to be followed during this jungle trekking (in order to avoid from being loss) is to follow the direction of the electric cable. Take note of that blue-painted bridge along the way too, you should cross four of these blue bridges before reaching Paya Beach.



Check out Melina Beach Resort mid-way through your trekking if you do have extra time. It has a private beach with beautiful rocks and clear blue sea. There would be a series of wooden stairs and signboards that lead you there too, so don’t be afraid that you will be lost during the jungle trekking.

When you start finding yourself passing more and more boulders, it means that you are getting near to the end of the trek. You will see a plateau of huge rock overlooking the popular Paya Beach when you reach the end.

3. ASAH WATERFALL TOUR




Located at the South of the island near Mukut Village, Asah Waterfall is the most famous waterfall in Pulau Tioman. We highly recommend that you should signup for this Asah Waterfall tour as not only you are able to enjoy the cool fresh waterfall but also the amazing mountain views along the way especially the famous Twin Peaks.

The boat ride would cost about 15 minutes before reaching Mukut Village Jetty. This make an easy hike up to the waterfall too. Upon reaching the forest trail, you will be greeted by the pleasant sound of the waterfall right away.


The hike to Asah Waterfall is very easy with steps and concrete pavement laid all away from the entrance. This hike takes around 10 to 15 minutes before reaching. It is super cool up there and suitable to have a dive in. However, please be noted that the middle portion of the waterfall pond is quite deep and not really suitable for a swim, especially for small children. You may request for a life jacket for your children from the tour guide too if needed.

Try climbing up further to explore the higher tiers of the waterfall also if you are a little adventurous. You may experience an amazing feeling when being at the top of the waterfall.

4. WATCH BABY TURTLES HATCHING

Have you ever seen one of those nature documentaries where hundreds of tiny turtles hatch out of their eggs and crawl across the sand into the sea, to start their aquatic lives? Don’t miss out Juara’s Turtle Project available in Pulau Tioman. Here, visitors would be provided with various useful information and facts about turtles by the center’s workers and staffs. With the help of a comprehensive exhibition, visitors can learn why many of the island’s turtle nest beaches have been destroyed and the remaining population is endangered also. This provide an awareness to protect the turtles from being endangered too.


When it was time to see the hatcheries, visitors would be brought to a fenced-off section of the beach where the volunteers place fertilized turtle eggs for incubation, after rescuing them from beaches around the island where they would otherwise be vulnerable to a variety of threats. Here, these turtle eggs can hatch in safety. Each nest contains around a hundred eggs and once one starts to hatch, the rest follow suit within minutes.

The volunteers will even invite you to join them to release these baby turtles at sunset during the evening, marking as the final chapter of this center’s role for each turtles. That is, until the few surviving females become pregnant and search Pulau Tioman for somewhere to lay their eggs.

5. ASIA TIOMAN’S CUISINES

A seafood fest is a must when having an island trip. Food lovers should try out all the delicious sea cuisine than Pulau Tioman offered. There are a lot of local shops open for the purpose of giving your taste buds a real taste of Asia, but there are also places such as bars and small coffee shops available for short hanging out and have a light drink.Besides, there is a lot of seafood restaurants available in Pulau Tioman too, which offers delicious and fresh seafood cuisines. Best season– June and July

From March to September, visitors are also welcomed but monsoon season falls from October to February so avoid visiting Tioman Island during this period.

HOW TO GO TO PULAU TIOMAN



Visitors have to reach the Mersing Jetty for the boat services by public coach services and private car services. But taking the bus is somehow cheaper.  Tioman Bluewater Express offers ferry services to Salang Village and Genting Village in Pulau Tioman. Every single trip will be charged for RM15. Visitors can seek for local boat transfer if planning to go to other villages.
