Kaya-kaya cafe is a beautiful vintage cafe in Melaka. The cafe is a reflection of Melaka City’s rich culture, history and traditions which are passed down from early settlers to the present generation. The vintage cafe exudes a calm ambiance and this hidden treasure where visitors are able to get some respite from the crowd at Jonker Street.

With ancient brick walls and wooden furniture, Kaya-kaya Cafe take you to time travel, probably decades ago. Head to the back of the building where you will find a countryard. At the back, the cafe features a great mural wall which has been welcoming endless guests for pictures. Settle in for a hearty meal at their outdoor courtyard while you admire the beautiful hand painting wall murals.

 

The cafe offers wholesome and hearty dishes. For example breakfast, their Kaya Cheese Toast is a must try. The kaya creamy and it feels like melting in your mouth. They add some more cheese to add some saltiness to the sweet taste. Start your day with a hearty plate of Kaya Toast.

Another focus point is the Mushroom Omelette. The fluffy moist scrambled eggs are added with mushrooms in butter until a fragrant smell given off. Truly the taste of heaven. Yummy. Geographer Cafe is probably one of the most well-known cafes in Melaka located within the heart of Melaka City. 6.The Stolen Cup

 

There are a humble cafe decorated with old clocks, posters and wooden planks to give at rustic feel, that is The Stolen Cup.

Nice Bossa Nova music are played as background music.

The Stolen Cup is a fairly new cafe. It’s opened in January of 2017 and located along the Jonker Street of Melaka Old Town. It offers a convenient place to rest our legs and get out of the heat when visiting the historical city of Melaka. The little cafe serves some nice coffee with croissants and is a great place for breakfast and afternoon coffee-time. A full frontal photo of the little cafe. It looks like a cup of coffee itself with warm lights and woody furnishings. Their barista speciality, Gula Melaka Latte is highlighted on a little blackboard outside the cafe.

Gula Melaka is the locally produced palm sugar and is a good replacement for sugar with a faint coconut flavour. A close-in of the cafe.

 

Although not a very big cafe, the space also nice so there will not be too many people in the cafe and allow more room for checking out the decorations. Another special coffee here is curacao coffee and the curacao is flavoured with peels of oranges.

Their caramel macchiato is highly recommended too. If you never try salted egg croissant before, the one that offered here does not disappoint you. It well-toasted and has a crispy skin.

7.Rainforest Coffee Bean

 

Surrounded by ancient antique and furniture, Rainforest Coffee Ban creates a nostalgic ambience for us to enjoy their homemade coffee.

While walking in, you will first be greeted by their on-site shop that sells freshly grounded coffee powder such as Arabian coffee bean. For caffeine addict, this is the 100% original coffee bean from Arabian.

The combination between the antique decor and the strongly flavoured coffees and pasties from a what-you-need ambiance. You can either enjoy coffee surrounded by antique furniture inside the shop or just sit in the front table facing the bustling Jonker Street and watch people pass by.

The staff is friendly and it is a good stop for coffee on your stroll through Chinatown. The inner cafe has seating with table set comfortable for more than 10 patrons at a time. Walls are studded with heritage art items and antique furniture every where. It is a unique experience to be surrounded by antique objects while having coffee. The concept is well developed to be a two way attraction for visitors.

There are also various types of coffee powders are stuffed in brownish packs with some informative description over it. It’s placed in different platforms of a big wooden shelf kept in one of the corners. On the left to this section is the entrance to the seat and tables. The creamy cheesecakes is the highlight too. Caramelized on the top, there are blueberries stuffed in between and a crust at bottom. Basically, it has 3 layers and the taste and texture are perfect in mouth.

8.The Daily Fix Café

 

The Daily Fix welcomes many visitors on a daily basis. It basically was once an old shop house, had underwent renovation to offer customers a cosy environment in rustic feel. It’s quite popular among the teenagers because they like to upload the surrounding here on Instagram.

There are a few factors we can think of that attributed to the cafe’s overwhelming success – its location and charming vintage interior. The Daily Fix is hidden behind a souvenir store at Joker Street and its menu features fusion mains and desserts.

The cafe specializes in serving pancakes with different flavours. One of the highlights is their Local Pandan Pancake that comes with 5 pieces stuffed with sugar. Other desserts like brownies and cakes are offered too.

If you like to eat spaghetti, their Smoked Duck Aglio Olio is so well-cooked and the chilli and garlic seasoning are added to the perfect amount. The duck meat is not too fatty and you can change it with Char Siew as well. If you are love taking photographs, head to the indoor courtyard at the back for more scenic spots.

9.The Baboon House

 

The Baboon House is a charming cafe that boasts “Nature Feel”. The tranquil environment of the cafe shows a huge contrast to the lively Jonker Street outside. The Baboon House is quaint cafe with a great laid-back vibe – complete with an open-air courtyard and greenery snaking up the walls, spacious seating arrangements, eclectic furnishings, and visitors are often greeted by the owner’s adorable pet dog and cat.

10.Riverview Café Melaka

 

As the name suggested, the cafe offers diners a picturesque vies of Malacca River while they were enjoying the food. At night, the lights that reflecting on the river creates a very romantic ambience for dinner.

If the weather is nice, the outdoor seating is even more enjoyable. You can see the boats cruising by the river and the smiles of tourists on the boat could make your day.

Having been around for a decade, Calanthe Art Cafe has made a reputation for itself along Jonker Street. What is interesting about the cafe is that it serves 13 different types of coffee highlighting the difference in coffee that is unique to each Malaysian state.

With the tagline “The First and Only One”, Calanthe Art Cafe serves specialty coffee drinks from all 13 states of the country, so if you are an adventurous coffee aficionado, this is definitely something you want to try. As for their food items, Calan Art Cafe specializes in local food, and does se expertly, as it was listed in top 50 best laksa outlets in M’sia by Malaysia Tourism Body.

Laksa is a Nyonya spicy noodle soup, and the cafe’s version is loaded with ingredients such as tofu puffs, fried bean curd skin, eggs strips and fishcake slices. All in flavorful coconut gravy infused with lemongrass turmeric and spices.

 

For non-coffee drinkers, they have ice-blended beverages such as Pink Lady and Cendol Ice Blenz. Variety of smoothies, soda mixes, milk shakes and teas are offered too. If you prefer alcoholic drinks, the shop recommend you the Bailey Cocktail. After the meal, you can order their brownie with ice-cream or caramel slice as desserts. The next on the list of cafés in Jonker Street , we have The Sin Sing Café is located along Jalan Hang Jebat, and is more of a concept outlet store, as they sell freshly brewed beverages and snacks from Sin Sing Coffee, which is a local brand. The café is delightfully classic, giving off Hainanese coffee shop vibes.

We recommend getting their Kopi O, or black coffee, which is aromatic and flavoursome. If you’re coming here for breakfast, get a couple of Half-Boiled Eggs and Toast as well. The perfect, quintessential Malaysian breakfast set.

Relish The Moment is located along Jalan Kampung Pantai, and is a quaint little café decorated to look rustic and beautifully vibrant.

The aesthetic features many call backs to the years long gone in the form of vintage décor, as well as industrial style with the exposed walls and wooden furniture.

We recommend getting their Pizza as well as their Mushroom Toast, with a hot coffee to finish the meal. The pizza is properly crunchy and has a very rich, flavourful sauce and the mushrooms are caramelized to golden brown perfection.
