Luscious Braised Duck Pride of Johor Bahru

Duck cuisines is a popular staple food in Malaysia, especially during the daylight. Using predominantly noodles or fragrant white rice acts as the mattress and served along with slices of savory yet sweet duck meat along with its gravy, it does make a quick, simple meal that is absolutely delicious. Now, imagine having the golden dark brown braised duck meat itself that comes in a malleable texture, juicy and sopping up the titivating gravy that is showered above, either a dark and gooey version or milder Teochew style. Isn’t that heavenly satisfying?

Well, do you know that actually Johor Bahru also serve great braised duck cuisines such as duck meat noodles, duck meat rice and variety of braised food? If you are not sure what those food are, here are the simple explanation by us:

TYPES OF DUCK CUISINES

  • Duck Meat Noodles (Soup)

The Duck Meat Noodles in soup further accentuates the essence of the braised duck with all the unique spices concentrated in the duck meat during the preparation process. When you take a bite of it, all the great flavors of the spices soaked within the noodles will definitely make every slurp hard to stop. The duck meat noodle would be completed with condiments such like beansprouts, dried tofu and spring onions as these ingredients are able to improve texture to the overall dish.

  • Duck Meat Noodles (Dry)

Instead using common noodles found in Selangor or Kuala Lumpur, duck meat noodles usually use special handmade Fu Zhou noodle which are more chewy and eggy in flavor. The texture of Fu Zhou noodle are more softer when compared to the ordinary yellow noodle and these noodles are able to absorb the duck soup essence in like a sponge. The aromatic herb flavors entwined with the noodles and duck meat do bring forth a traditional and down-to-earth flavor in every bite too.

  • Duck Meat Rice

This dish is specially made to all the rice lovers, especially for you. The combination of savory and tasty duck meat with concentrated thick dark sauces on steaming hot rice are heavenly satisfying and irresistible, right? Most of the restaurants that serve duck meat rice usually will replace the ordinary steamed rice with fragrance rice. It is because fragrance rice’s texture are more oily and more appetizing with the help of lemongrass used during the preparation process.

  • Braised Food

The duck meat that the owner has used for this dish is a type of duck with lesser fat content under the skin which are very suitable for braising. The flavors of the herbs have completely infiltrated the duck skin and into the meat after braising it for several hours under low heat. You will be able to taste the savory and sweet flavor of the meat, with that hint of herbal taste once you take a bite of it. Besides that, braised side dishes are also available too, such as braised egg, braised tofu, braised chicken feet and braised pork or duck innards.
