Throughout the country, Taman Merdeka or Independence Park is available in many states in Malaysia which includes Malacca, Perak and many others.

Johor is also built with an Independence Park which is to commemorate the struggle of Independence achieved by Tunku Abdul Rahman, the first Prime Minister in Malaysia.   1. Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque

Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque is completed in the year of 1900, located on top of a hill with a bird sight over the straits of Johor and also our neighbor, Singapore. The mosque is believe by Malaysians as one of the most beautiful mosque in the country as it combines the architecture styles between Victorian and Moorish and added a little touch of Malay influence.

Throughout its age, this mosque contains history for over 100 years. Construction of this royal mosque is commissioned by the the late Sultan of Johor, Sultan Abu Bakar which is the ‘Father of Modern Johor’. Listed as a protected monument by the Department of Museums and Antiquities, the mosque features four grand minarets that resemble the Victorian architecture style. There are also Victorian styled wooden window which measures up to six feet in height, craved with gorgeous English carvings.

Prayer room of Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque accommodates up to 2,000 peoples each time. The prayer hall is supported by unique and royal built Roman pillar. Outside this historical and royal mosque, you may find the landscape is very nice and well-manicured. The best view you can get is from the south entrance, which faces the sea and you can capture the grandeur of this mosque together with its minarets.

Non-Muslims are allowed to enter the mosque during non-prayers time. However, dress-code must be observed. For woman, head-scarf is suggested to show sign of respect and all shoes must goes off before entering the building compound.
