  1. Kota Laksamana Asam Pedas Claypot

We are starting off our list of Halal Food In Melaka with the Kota Laksamana Asam Pedas Claypot restaurant, located along Jalan Laksamana 5 in the Taman Kota Laksamana area. The restaurant is quite neat and clean, with a simple ‘gerai’ layout (meaning see-through food displays and large menus on the walls) and lots of seating arrangements.

We recommend getting their famous Asam Pedas Claypot, and if you like sides to go with it, get a Roti Canai or two. The asam pedas is spicy and has a strong tang to it, and the broth is flavoursome and slightly sweet, perfect for dipping the roti canai into.

  1. Kuih Keria Antarabangsa Hj. Jalil

Next in the list ogf the Halal Food In Melaka, we have the Kuih Keria Antarabangsa Hj. Jalil, located along Jalan Limbongan in the Kampung Limbongan area. It is a roadside open air stall, where customers can just stop by and have a quick snack or two. The place is covered with zinc roofing, and is perfectly shaded during the sunny afternoons of Melaka.

Of course, we recommend getting their Kuih Keria, as they are famous for them. Kuih keria is a Malaysian snack, reminiscent of a donut, and is covered with sugar. The outside is fried to a crispy golden brown, but the inside manages to stay soft and fluffy. While you’re at it, you can also order a bowl of their Laksa, which is surprisingly good.

The Jonker 88 is located along Jalan Hang Jebat, in the Jonker Street area. The place features a very classical aesthetic, with design and décor touchers influenced by the rich culture and heritage of the street it is on. A definite looker in our opinion.

We recommend trying their Nyonya Asam Laksa, and finish off the meal with a nice cool bowl of their Cendol. The asam laksa broth is rich and thick, and has a nice level of spice to it.

The Cendol afterwards helps cool everything down, and adds a splash of sweetness to your meal experience.

  1. Roti Canai Kayu Arang Melaka

One of the more prominent Halal food stops in Melaka, the Roti Canai Kayu Arang is a very famous ‘gerai’ located in the Kampung Bakar Batu area, somewhere around Bachang. The stall looks like a standard Malay food stall, with an open air dining space and lots of seating arrangements.

We recommend trying their famous Roti Canai, as well as their Satay, both of which are prepared over hot coals. The roti canai is crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, with a slight stretch as well as a hint of smokiness from the charcoal.

The satay is juicy and properly seasoned, and has a nice char on it which really gives its flavour a great depth.

One of the rarer finds on our list, the Ee Ji Ban Chicken Rice Ball is a Halal-certified Chinese restaurant located along Jalan Melaka Raya 3 in the Taman Melaka Raya area. The space is designed and decorated as any other Chinese restaurant would be, with banquet style tables with marble tops, bright lighting, and newspaper cut outs on the many times this restaurant was featured on the daily paper.

We recommend getting their signature Chicken Rice Balls, that come with a platter of your choice of either Roast Chicken or Steamed Chicken.
