Pontian is a district in southwest Johor, the name of Pontian was transformed from a Malay word “Perhentian” which means a stop. In today, the name Pontian is also used in the names of two towns in the district, Pontian Besar and Pontian Kechil, of which the latter serves as the district capital. The capital was formerly a fishing village which has developed into a small town. 1. Kedai Minuman Ah Kneong
If you are looking for a delicious rice noodles, you should have a try in this shop. This is a normal hawker center and you can easily reach there by the apps in your phone.
The signature dishes in this shop include the claypot fish soup, fried prawn noodles and fried spring roll. All the ingredients that used to make the dishes are freshest.
The owner of the shop strive to improve and create the delicious dishes for the customers. The most popular dish in this restaurant is the Tong Kang vermicelli which had satisfied customer’s expectations.
Tong Kang actually is kind of fish with yellow colour and it can only be eaten in Kukup, Pontian or Batu Pahat. The Tong Kang fish is cook with the noodles so that the noodles absorb fish’s fresh flavor. Once you had try you will definitely know how delicious it is.

2. Kheng Guan Hiong
This is a historical coffee shop that has been operating for 3 generations. Kheng Guan Hiong Kopitiam is situated opposite Pontian Market. When you step into the coffee shop, you will be attracted by the aromatic scent of the coffee.
Although this is not a high class café; do not serve a western style cappuccino, but you can enjoy the traditional black coffee. The coffee bean of the coffee shop will be fried by using owner’s own recipes and ways.
Other than the coffee, the toast bread would be another must try thing in this coffee shop. Every morning, the owner personally cuts and toasts the bread after he go to the factory to collect the bread. You can choose whether to put the thicker homemade kaya layer or the 2 soft-oiled eggs on the charcoal toasted bread. The tasty traditional coffee mix with the charcoal toasted bread, definitely a perfect match of classical breakfast!

This is a Hainanese coffee shop has served the customers for decades. Ah Guang Coffee Shop is strategically located in the center of the Pontian city and just opposite a primary school.

8. Sin Kee Kedai Mee

12. Li Guoqi Laksa
Whenever traveling to Pontian, do remember to have a bowl of curry noodle or laksa at Li Guoqi Laksa, which is also one of the traditional stall that serve the best laksa and curry noodle there. Formally known to locals as “婆婆叻沙” the eatery hold this official name for decades.
But then the media caught up with her a few years ago, they named the stall after Mdm Goh’s late husband, hence the name 李国旗 laksa was created and re-know for. Madam Goh 胡玉香 still runs the stall she founded 50 years ago with the help of her sister-in-law. She still personally cooks the curry and sambal chili, the heart and soul of the dish.
The simple set up of her eatery consist of a collection of assorted tables and chairs scattered around the front porch of Madam Goh’s family home. To everyone that are pining for old kampung life, this carefree, unpretentious setting would surely steal their heart.
For only RM5, her bowl of laksa and curry mee are huge and loaded with generous amount of noodles, fried tofu, fried tau pok, ngoh hiong, fish cake, and a couple of pork balls as side dish also.
