Kluang is a small town that’s set right within the Johor’s centre. The name Kluang derives from the Malay word ‘keluang’ which implies a sort of fruit bat or rather a sort of bat . which used to be plentiful in the district decades ago.
It is founded in year 1915 to be served as the administrative capital of Johor during the golden days, where almost all main railway line passes through it due to the quick development. That railway line separate the town with other parts of Kluang, and it is used to be the only way to reach the town.
So, whenever a train is approaching, the crossing is closed and all the vehicles had to wait for the train to pass. The gate used to be manually operated, but now it is done mechanically.
Kluang town lies in an area of undulating hills. The highest point fot Gunung Lambak, is a 510m tall mountain In the western part of the district lies the Gunung Belumut Recreational Forest.
However, Kluang is landlocked and has no seafront.
Over the 20th century, Kluang’s economy transitioned from rubber to palm oil and now has some of Malaysia’s largest organic farms such as Zenxin Farm, UK Agro Farm and Kahang Organic Rice farm. The town is surrounded by farming districts, some of which have established eco resorts and tours too.

One Of The Must Go Coffee Shop In Klunag . Opened by the Lim family in the 1930s, Kluang Rail Coffee now has branches across Malaysia under the Kluang Station franchise.
Proudly to say, Kluang Rail Coffee could probably the best kopitiam in Southern Malaysia that was passed down for four generations after the original Lim started the kopitiam.
Located strategically at the local railway station, Kluang Rail Coffee has been around since 1938. It was a pit stop for travelers arriving in Kluang and the railway canteen is one of the town’s famous landmark.
Although there are branches of outlets of Kluang Rail Coffee available all around Malaysia, but the toast served at the Kluang Station outlets pales in comparison to the real thing. If you get a chance, go to Kluang and experience this yourself.
The toasts that they serve there care the ‘real’ toasts of the town, and they might be out of stock before lunch time. The kopitiam offer three types of bread to be chosen from; wholemeal, white bread and buns. One bite of the charcoal roasted toast and you’ll be hooked. When it comes to toast, Kluang Rail Coffee is in a league of their own and even their younger incarnations can’t beat.
Unlike the typical ordinary plain bun that we eat everyday, Kluag Rail Coffee’s buns have more softer texture. It is fluffy on the inside and charred on the outside, making it a great combination with any kind of spread. Usually, these buns are paired with creamy blocks of Cowhead butter and homemade kaya (coconut jam) and Nasi Lemak . This heavenly combination is known as Roti Kahwin (married bread) in order to describe a staple Malaysia breakfast sandwich that is a wonderful marriage of kaya and butter spread on top of the toast/bun.
The setting of Kluang Railway Station Coffee still pretty much looks the same with the old tables and fan from year 1930. If you happen to drop by Kluang, it is a must for you to drop by the station to have a meal.
But if you are taking the train to Kuala Lumpur and it stops in Kluang, you may not enough time to sit down and enjoy their delicious food, but you still can pack some coffee and Bread.
Remember, the train only stops for a minute.
